A seashell DNA has many proteins. Molecular scientists have already identified the gene responsible for natural ceramic material creation in a seashell. What if a particular bacteria is infused with this protein of the seashell to make a printable ink for 3D printers? The ink is also infused with a culture medium for the bacteria to feed and multiply. As the multiplication happens, it produces calcium carbonate or natural ceramic. Such a 3D printed ceramic piece will eliminate the need for firing and glazing, thus producing a very sustainable product.
